Nick's Mom's Update.....:)
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23, 2006 08:23 PM, CDT
Sorry that the update is so late tonight. It has been a busy day and since there are no laptops allowed in the ICU rooms I have to find a few minutes to escape to the parent room and write.
Today Nick continues to squeeze and release his fingers sometimes harder than others. He has moved his feet and his toes when I tickle the bottom of his foot. This morning Steve was helping to readjust him in bed and was holding his head. Nick opened his eyes about halfway and closed them again. Then later this afternoon Josh called me over to see that Nick was moving his eyes back and forth (he always has slept with his eyes a little open and so we could see them moving). He is tolerating his feedings very well. His kidneys and lungs continue to improve. We are keeping our hope that God will continue to work in Nick's body even at such a slow pace. He needs to heal for as long as it takes him to get well. We will wait.
Grandma Briggs (my mom) arrived today with my sister, Cathy and her husband, Harry. They will stay until Monday. Next week my two other sisters and two brothers will be arriving. Josh and Alisha will be heading home tomorrow with our friends, the Shields'. Josh back to college and Alisha to 12th grade. It is hard for them to leave but since we have no idea how long this will take they must get back.
Specific prayers...that Nick would show more improvement each day and astound the doctors who are scratching their heads, that his toes would heal after a nasty bout with the drug norepinephrine, that his lungs and kidneys would continue to improve, that the swelling in his brain would continue to go down and back to normal, that God would heal him from the leukemia or at least continue to keep it at bay until he is stronger, that Alisha and Josh along with all other family would have safe travel back and forth, that Steve and I would be rested even after only 4 hours of sleep a night. Also, pray for our Dr. Rubnitz. That is alot, I know, but we have a big God who is able to do much more than we ever ask or imagine.
Will update as I am able. PRAY FOR BIG THINGS!
Love, Wendy
